Gillian Beltz-Mohrmann
Assistant Professor of Physics and of Statistical and Data Sciences

Biography
Prof. Beltz-Mohrmann is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and the Program in Statistical and Data Sciences. She recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Cosmological Physics and Advanced Computing Group at Argonne National Laboratory. She received her Ph.D. in astrophysics in 2022 from Vanderbilt University, and her B.A. in 2016 from Wellesley College.
Professor Beltz-Mohrmann's research lies at the intersection of large-scale structure, galaxy formation, and cosmology. Her work aims to answer fundamental questions about the nature of dark matter and dark energy, as well as improve our understanding of how galaxies form and evolve. In her research, she uses large computer simulations to predict how and where galaxies form in the Universe, and compares these predictions to observations of real galaxies to help improve our theoretical models. She is an active member of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Collaboration, as well as the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC).
