Faye Hirsch
Lecturer in Art

Biography
Faye Hirsch (she, her) is a writer, editor, curator and teacher who has published widely on contemporary art, with a specialty in prints. She was chair of the master’s degree program in Fine Art at the School of Art+Design at Purchase College, SUNY, from 2012 to 2024, and served as a senior editor at Art in America from 2003 to 2014 and Print Collector’s Newsletter from 1991 to 1996; and editor-in-chief of Art on Paper from 1996 to 2001. The author of dozens of catalogue essays, articles, and books, she continues to write reviews on contemporary art and exhibitions for Hyperallergic and Brooklyn Rail. She was a recipient of the Penny McCall Foundation Award for excellence in criticism (2002), and in 2013 she was honored by the International Print Center New York for her art criticism on prints. Having recently retired from full-time teaching, Hirsch is now enjoying her freedom to write, garden and practice her flute. Her book on the painter Lois Dodd (2017) is in its third printing, and she is about to embark on an essay about the monotypes of the pioneering feminist artist, Harmony Hammond, for a forthcoming monograph.
