Smith College Names ej seibert ’08 Vice President for Equity and Inclusion

Following a national search, Smith College has named ej seibert ’08 as its next Vice President for Equity and Inclusion. seibert—a licensed clinical social worker, writer, and experienced higher-education administrator—brings institutional knowledge, strategic vision, and community-centered leadership to the position.

“ej is guided by a deep commitment to building a just, supportive, and welcoming campus. They are exceptionally well prepared to sustain and advance our momentum in equity and inclusion,” said Smith College President Sarah Willie-LeBreton. “I have been continually impressed by the breadth of their knowledge, strategic clarity, and practical expertise.”

seibert received a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in 2008, majoring in American studies and minoring in English, and later earned a Master of Social Work from Westfield State University.

seibert brings nearly a decade of experience in higher education, behavioral health, accessibility, training, and student support to the vice president role. Since returning to Smith as associate director of Disability Services in 2022, they have held positions of increasing responsibility, serving as director of the Accessibility Resource Center and, most recently, Dean of Students, Director of Care & Community Standards. In July 2026, they were also appointed Interim Vice President for Equity and Inclusion.

“Although my lifelong personal experience as well as my professional trajectory have prepared me for leadership and the ongoing work of equity and inclusion, this moment is not one I could have imagined when I arrived at Smith as an undergraduate in the early 2000s,” said seibert. “Moving into this role now is simultaneously a culmination of so much and a beginning of all that is yet to unfold.”

Prior to their roles at Smith, seibert held leadership and clinical positions at ServiceNet, where they served as a program director and coordinator within its behavioral health programs. Earlier, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, they worked in counseling, crisis response, training, and administration, including serving as supervisor of the university’s Rape Crisis Services, covering all of Hampshire County. seibert has also taught at Westfield State University and spent many years as a training facilitator, editor, and consultant.

Across these roles, seibert has built a career focused on supporting individuals and communities, developing effective programs and services, and helping organizations navigate complex issues involving access, equity, and well-being.
