Smith College Department of Dance proudly celebrates the work and recognition of dance faculty Professor Angie Hauser, Bebe Miller (Neilson Professor ’17), and two distinguished alumnae from the Department of Dance, Shayla Vie Jenkins and Chloe London. Bebe Miller Company’s Vesper’s Reimagined was recently mentioned in The New York Times as part of the 50th Anniversary season of Danspace Project. The work features Jenkins (M.F.A. ’19) and London (M.F.A. ’23) as solo performers, and was choreographed by Bebe Miller with Hauser contributing as Choreographic/Archival Associate.
Bebe Miller, whose creative legacy is intertwined with the Smith College Dance Department, served as a Neilson Professor in 2017. Her numerous collaborations with Smith students and residencies at Smith with her company over the years have been integral to the continued development of the department’s vibrant artistic community.
Angie Hauser, a Smith College professor, has been involved in the Vesper’s Reimagined project as Choreographic and Archival Associate. Hauser’s role has been instrumental in the preservation and evolution of Miller’s work, ensuring that the project reflects both its historical significance and contemporary relevance.
Hauser, Miller, and their collaborators Darrell Jones and Stacy Matthew Spence, were in residence at Smith College from April 18–21, 2025, rehearsing their newest co-created work Indifferent Forest, premiering at Harlem Stage in May 2025.
The Department of Dance at Smith College continues to be a nurturing ground for talented and visionary artists, fostering a dynamic community of performers, choreographers, and educators. We are thrilled to see the contributions of Hauser, Jenkins, London, and Miller recognized.
